In alignment with its core principles, Joy of Movement offers the following movement techniques:

Nia is a blend of dance arts, martial arts and healing practices rolled into a 1 hour fitness class designed to condition the body and mind and release emotions and stress.  It encourages you to embrace your uniqueness and creativity.  Nia celebrates moving Your Body Your Way to an eclectic mix of global music.

Nia 5 Stags of Healing is an integrative movement practice based on the five stages of human development.

Ageless Grace is a program consisting of 21 simple and fun exercise tools designed for all ages and abilities.  Exercises are based on everyday movements that are natural, organic and focus on the healthy longevity of the body and mind.  The movements are done predominantly while seated in a chair, but can be done on a bed, standing up or down on the floor.  Almost anyone can do them, regardless of most physical conditions.

We do the movements in a chair for several reasons:

  • Works the core of the body
  • The body is stimulated in ways we don’t move normally
  • Is accessible for people of any weight, any age and anyone in a wheelchair

Nia 5 Stages

Reclaim Your Body – sustain mobility, flexibility, strength, agility and stability.

Nia 5 Stages is an integrative movement practice based on the five stages of human development:  Embryonic, Creeping, Crawling, Standing and Walking.  Practiced with awareness, these stages have the power to facilitate optimal alignment, improved function and comfort in the body.  Practicing the Nia 5 Stages provides a way for the body to do what it does best, which is to take care of itself, to self-heal.  When allowed to, the body will always move towards healing itself, seeking where it functions optimally.  Movement is medicine for the body and the Nia 5 Stages provide us a wonderful path towards improved health and wellbeing.

Ageless Grace®

Ageless Grace® is predominantly a seated program consisting of 21 simple and fun exercise tools designed for all ages and abilities.  These exercises are based on everyday movements that are natural, organic and focus on the healthy longevity of the body and mind.  Almost anyone can do them, regardless of most physical conditions.

Each of the Ageless Grace® Tools emphasises a different anti-aging technique, such as joint mobility, spinal flexibility, right-left brain coordination, kinesthetic learning, cognitive function, systemic health, balance, self-esteem, confidence and playfulness  The easy-to-learn Tools promote the “three Rs” of lifelong comfort and ease—not reading, ´riting and ´arithmetic—but the ability to respond, react and recover efficiently and safely.

Ageless Grace® works by re-opening the neural pathways that were created from the time you were born until approximately the age of 21 years old.  Functional and cognitive skills were developed through typical childhood games, sports and activities that are now no longer “practiced” as adults.  The 21 Tools of Ageless Grace® re-open those pathways and, equally important, create new ones by practicing functional movements we don’t already know how to do.
